UK Prime Minister and Swedish Prime Minister in Fusion Energy Talks

On Monday, 19 June, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and the Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson met at the Prime Minister's Office, 10 Downing Street. Among the many topics discussed, the two leaders shared their joint commitment to cooperate in innovation, civil nuclear energy, and future energy sources such as fusion.

The meeting between the two leaders followed the meeting Novatron Fusion Group and KTH Royal Institute of Technology had with Andrew Bowie, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Nuclear and Networks), last week when he paid a visit to our NOVATRON laboratory in Stockholm.

The UK delegation also had the opportunity to talk to our founder and innovator, Jan Jäderberg, and our chairman co-founder Erik Odén, including discussions and presentations by Lisa Ericsson, Head of KTH Innovation and CEO of KTH Holding AB, and Stefan Östlund, Vice President, Global Relations at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

Release of Joint Leadership Statement

A Joint Leadership Statement was issued as a result of the meeting between UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson. The policy paper highlighted a closer collaboration between the two countries to address global challenges. Among the many topics, the two leaders shared their joint commitment to cooperate in future energy sources such as fusion.

"Yesterday's Joint Leadership Statement from the UK Prime Minister and the Prime Minister of Sweden is a significant signal in terms of collaboration within the emerging fusion industry,” comments Peter Roos, CEO Novatron Fusion Group.

Fusion energy collaboration expands

The UK and Sweden will explore new opportunities to establish fusion energy as the long-term preferred and flexible large-scale reliable source of clean, safe, and virtually limitless energy.

"This is an important step in the right direction between the UK and Sweden regarding sustainability and new energy opportunities. We must cooperate on infrastructure issues, common regulatory directives, increased skill sets, and investments to develop economically viable commercial fusion energy as soon as possible,” adds Linda Nyberg, Chief Communications Officer at Novatron Fusion Group.

Next week the two countries' foreign ministers will meet in Sweden. At Novatron Fusion Group we look forward to the continued discussions, particularly in the fields of science and fusion technology.

Moreover, we excitedly await what the comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, to be signed before the end of the year, will entail for fusion energy as a net zero solution to the global energy problem.
