Highlighting Nordic deployment opportunities and mirror machine innovation at FusionX:Global

NOVATRON 1, the first pilot device

Novatron Fusion Group (NFG) is gearing up to take center stage at FusionX:Global in Munich next week, spotlighting how fusion energy can transition from research to deployment.

As both sponsors and panellists, NFG will use the forum to share insights, exchange ideas, present its progress and roadmap, and discuss the broader strategic perspective on the role of fusion in Europe’s energy transition. Meanwhile, members of the company’s leadership team will contribute to two seperate panel discussion, addressing both regional ecosystem development in the Nordics and the evolving commercial case for magnetic mirror technology.

The event, running February 25-27, brings together representatives from across the global fusion community, including technology developers, investors, policymakers and industrial stakeholders with a shared focus on advancing commercialization.

NFG is the only private fusion energy company in the Nordics and the first private fusion company in the EU to build a fully integrated fusion plasma system. We achieved plasma on our very first attempt, a milestone made possible by the rigorous development of our unique, stability‑focused magnetic mirror configuration.

Innovation & Deployment: Fusion in the Nordics (February 25 | 14:40–15:20)

The first panel involving NFG, with CEO Peter Roos participating, will examine the emergence of a Nordic fusion ecosystem and its potential contribution to European fusion deployment. Discussion topics include the strategic role of the Nordics in next-generation energy systems, plus the development of supply chains, partnerships and workforce capacity. Panelists will also cover national regulatory approaches and support mechanisms for innovation.

NFG’s participation reflects its ongoing work to assess potential deployment pathways within the region. A recent study conducted in collaboration with Finland’s VTT Technical Research Centre identified several promising Nordic locations for a future fusion pilot plant, highlighting the region’s industrial infrastructure, grid stability and evolving regulatory frameworks.

The findings indicate that Nordic countries are well positioned to support early-stage fusion facilities, subject to continued policy development and cross-border collaboration.

The Nordic region combines strong industrial competence, political stability and a tradition of energy innovation. With appropriate regulatory alignment and continued collaboration, the region has the potential to host early fusion facilities and support broader European deployment

Commercialisation: Magnetic Mirrors (February 26 | 12:00–12:30)

In the second panel, NFG will be represented by Founder and Chairman Erik Odén, who will delve into the commercial outlook for magnetic mirror fusion systems. While tokamak-based approaches have traditionally dominated the field, renewed technical progress has led to increasing interest in alternative confinement concepts, including magnetic mirrors.

Discussion will explore the current status of mirror machines relative to other fusion approaches, charting recent technical advances in plasma stability and confinement. It will further cover the commercial and technical potential of mirror systems as volumetric neutron sources, while considering the remaining challenges on the pathway to break-even.

NFG’s NOVATRON concept is based on an axisymmetric magnetic mirror configuration designed to address historical limitations in plasma confinement. The company has presented its progress in international forums, including at workshops associated with ITER, where the renewed interest in mirror systems has been evident.

The simplicity, scalability, and inherent advantages of mirror machines make them not only strong contenders as future power sources, but also exceptionally effective steady state neutron sources, providing a valuable platform for advancing the entire fusion industry
